It's About Time
​Arena Synopses


COMPETITION ARENA SYNOPSES
 
 
ARENA 1: THE SHOWTIME CHALLENGE 
 Your Time or Mine?
 Your team's challenge prior to the competition is to create a four to five-minute skit about a town that straddles two time zones.  You must include:
  • A town that is divided by two time zones
  • Mayor Albert with his town solution “The Incredible Theory of Relativity”
  • A very difficult city board member 
  • A pizza delivery person
  • A confused visitor
  • A major town event
  • Entertaining Humor
Competition day your team will enter the ShowtimePreparation room thirty minutes before your performance time and draw from five decks of cards (character, word, line of dialogue, action, and prop).  Your team then has thirty minutes to smoothly incorporate what the cards designate into your existing skit.
 
 
ARENA 2: THE ENGINEERING FEATS CHALLENGE
 Accidental Timing 
 Your team's challenge prior to the competition is to create a four to five-minute skit about a clock maker who accidently invents a time machine. You must include: 
  1. An accidental time machine with at least one working part
  2. A clock maker, Dr. Procrastinator, who lives up to his name 
  3. A bumbling perfectionist 
  4. An “embarrassing” problem to be solved
  5. An unusual “butterfly effect”
  6. Entertaining Humor
Competition day your team will enter the Engineering FeatsPreparation room thirty minutes before your performance time and draw from a deck of task cards to determine two more tasks that will become part of your presentation.  Your team then has thirty minutes to transform your materials into the required performance tasks and incorporate them into your skit.  
 
  
ARENA 3: THE FINE TUNING CHALLENGE 
 Tangled Time
 Your team's challenge prior to the competition is to create a four to five-minute skit based on a portal to parallel universes to find the perfect art and music for a school production. Your presentation must include:  
  • An unusual portal to parallel universes
  • Historical figures from three different centuries 
  • A disembodied “voice”
  • Tangled historical storylines 
  • Unexpected coming and going
  • An original song presented as music from the future or past
  • An original work of art presented as art from the future or past
  • Entertaining Humor
Competition day your team will enter the Fine TuningPreparation room thirty minutes before your performance time and draw two cards from a deck of task cards.  The Preparation room tasks required of the team could be creating new lyrics to an old melody, creating an original song, revising an existing work of art, creating a new work of art, or any combination of small projects. Your team then has thirty minutes to transform their materials into the required performance tasks. 
 
  
ARENA 4: THE PERSPECTIVE CHALLENGE 
 The Hands of Time 
 Your team's challenge prior to the competition is to create a four to five-minute skit from the perspective of a town’s Cuckoo Clock.  The skit must include:
  • The perspective of a town’s Cuckoo Clock 
  • Gullible townspeople who always believe the Cuckoo’s time 
  • An oblivious know-it-all mayor
  • A visiting reporter investigating strange “untimely” happenings
  • A town gossip 
  • An unexpected ending 
  • Wacky humor
Competition day your team will enter the PerspectivePreparation room thirty minutes before your performance time and draw from five decks of cards (character, word, line of dialogue, action, and prop).  Your team then has thirty minutes to smoothly incorporate what the cards designate into your existing skit.
