COMPETITION ARENA SYNOPSES
ARENA 1: THE SHOWTIME CHALLENGE
Pooka Boo!
Your team's challenge prior to the competition is to create a four to five-minute skit about an Irish Pooka who attaches itself to someone. You must include:
- A good-hearted but crafty Pooka
- The Pooka must shapeshift into at least two different animals
- Problems created and/or solved by the “imaginary” Pooka
- A mid-skit Pooka change of loyalties
- The “attached to” mortal(s) - the only one who can see/hear the Pooka
- Manifestations of the Pooka – things he triggers that others can see or hear
- Entertaining Humor
ARENA 2: THE ENGINEERING FEATS CHALLENGE
The Leprechaun’s Quest
Your team's challenge prior to the competition is to create a four to five-minute skit about a scatter-brained leprechaun who has lost his pot of gold and goes on a quest to find the perfect mortal to help him. You must include:
- A mechanical device that can move gold pieces
- A scatter-brained leprechaun
- A devious, greedy mortal who wants to catch a leprechaun
- A leprechaun defender who is more talk than action
- A “lost” pot of gold with a humorous “find”
- A magical piece of Irish jewelry
- Entertaining Humor
ARENA 3: THE FINE TUNING CHALLENGE
Cool MacCool!
Your team's challenge prior to the competition is to create a four to five-minute skit based on a team-created Finn MacCool adventure. Your presentation must include:
- A bigger-than-life hero named Finn MacCool
- A magical, heroic adventure
- An original Super Hero costume
- MacCool’s solution to a real Irish problem (such as the potato famine)
- A lucky shamrock with magical powers
- An original song presented as an Irish Jig for dancing
- An original work of art presented as a disguise
- Entertaining Humor
ARENA 4: THE PERSPECTIVE CHALLENGE
A Wee Bit o’ Blarney
Your team's challenge prior to the competition is to create a four to five-minute skit from the perspective of the Blarney Stone. (There will be no actual kissing allowed within the skit.) The skit must include:
- The perspective of the Blarney Stone
- Another talking stone(s) at Blarney Castle
- A needy tourist
- A “lost” sheep
- An ever-changing, intrusive, flowering vine
- A problematic “Stumble Step” (refer to Reginald’s Tower)
- Wacky humor
